Overview
Every year during the Spring Sports Season, St. Paul Parish hosts a Track & Field Team that competes with all active CYO parish teams within the Catholic Diocese of Columbus. The teams are broken down according to the following grades and gender:
- 4th & 5th grade boys
- 4th & 5th grade girls
- 6th, 7th grade boys (reserve)
- 6th, 7th grade girls (reserve)
- 8th grade boys (varsity)
- 8th grade girls (varsity)
Detailed Calendar
- Parent-Coaches Team Info Meeting: held pre-season/early March; uniform jersey fitting and pick-up
- Track & Field practice: starts early March. No practices held on Sundays or holy days.
- Diocesan Track & Field Meets: the first qualifier meet starts late March/early April. There will be (3) qualifier meets, (1) relay meet, and (1) championship meet. All meets are held on Saturdays. The end of season follows the Championship meet in early-mid May. No meets held on Sundays or holy days.
- Track & Field Team Mass: typically held on one Sunday (5PM mass) during the spring season
- Track & Field Team Awards & Recognition Banquet: typically held on the Monday evening, following the (inclement weather back-up date) for the Championship Meet.

Tryouts
There are no tryouts at any grade level. All St. Paul parishioners are welcome to join the parish team.

Meets
There are (5) meets per spring season which consists of (3) qualifier meets, (1) relay meet, and (1) championship meet. The Track & Field meets are held primarily at DeSales H.S., Hartley H.S., and occasionally at Central Crossing H.S. in Grove City. Each registered athlete can participate in no more than (3) events per qualifier meet and must compete in a minimum of (1) qualifier meet to participate in the championship meet. Championship events will be based on athlete event qualifications in accordance with the diocesan handbook, and not to exceed a total of three events, including relay events. References and resources will be available for athletes and participant families at the start of each season. No entry fees for registered coaches and athletes. Entry fees and accepted methods of payment for entry may vary by location.
The 4th and 5th grade events are held on Saturday mornings and typically end by noon or 1:00PM, depending on the meet, the weather, and the total number of event entries. The 6th/7th grade (Reserve) and 8th grade (Varsity) Teams begin their field events mid-mornings on Saturdays. Start times for running events will vary by meet but typically start around noon or shortly following the completion of the 4th and 5th grade running events on Saturdays. The completion time of running and field events vary based on the meet location, weather, and the total number of event entries.
Practices
Practices will be held outdoors, three times per week (M, W, Th) for an hour and a half in the evenings. Practice location is at Westerville Central High School Track, unless otherwise noted.
Equipment
Track & Field athletes will be provided a team uniform jersey top. Uniform shorts and running shoes are provided by the athlete. Athletic shorts and/or long athletic pants must be solid black in color with no logos, patterns, or designs. Athletes are permitted to wear solid black (long or short-sleeved) athletic tops under the uniform jersey top. Track spikes are not required. Track & Field practice and competition equipment will be provided, to include all throwing equipment, starting blocks, hurdles, and relay batons.
Rules
Ohio High School track and field rules apply for all grades. Amended rules specific to diocesan track and field can be found on the Columbus Diocesan Recreation website. The rules will also be made available by the coaching team.

Concessions
Concessions are typically available for purchase at the host meet location. However, it is recommended to pack plenty of water and healthy snacks that does not include pizza, burgers, hotdogs, chips, candy, or sugary beverages for consumption before and in between competition events.
